Kansas State Treasurer-elect Steven Johnson has announced the individuals joining the start of his administration in the Office of Kansas State Treasurer.
Treasurer-Elect Johnson's executive team was chosen for the experience and expertise they offer towards executing the office mission of sound cash management and financially empowering Kansas.
Jeff Chanay, Assistant State Treasurer and General Counsel – Chanay has served as Chief Deputy Attorney General for Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt since 2014. Prior to assuming that role, Chanay served for four years as Deputy Attorney General for the Civil Litigation Division. Before his service to the state, Chanay was in private practice as a partner in the Topeka law firm of Entz and Chanay, P.A.
Tom Treacy, Deputy Assistant State Treasurer – Treacy currently serves as Public Information Officer for Kansas Insurance Commissioner Vicki Schmidt. Prior to his job working for the Kansas Insurance Department, he served more than seven years in various roles at the Office of the Kansas State Treasurer. His most recent role at the treasurer's office was Director of the Kansas ABLE and 529 Education Savings Plans.
Clint Blaes, Director of Communications and Marketing – Blaes has served for the past 12 years in a variety of roles for Attorney General Schmidt, including serving as Director of Communications for the past eight years. Prior to his roles in the attorney general's office, Blaes worked as an agricultural policy aide to former US Senator Sam Brownback.
Payton Lacey, Manager of Executive Affairs – Lacey currently serves as a Constituent Services Liaison in Attorney General Schmidt's office. She previously worked in government relations for the Kansas Bankers Association and interned for US Senator Jerry Moran.
"The background, experience and work ethic that Jeff, Tom, Clint and Payton bring to the Office of the Kansas State Treasurer will play an important role in my efforts to serve Kansas as both a reliable banker for state funds and a responsible fiduciary for invested dollars," Johnson said.
Johnson will be sworn in as the 42nd State Treasurer on the south steps of the State Capitol at Noon on Monday, January 9. Johnson and his staff invite the public to join them, following the swearing-in ceremony, for an open house reception at the State Treasurer's Office at 900 SW Jackson Street, Suite 201 from approximately 1 to 4 PM.
