Treasurer Lynn Rogers and Learning Quest Present $6,000 to two Douglas County Schools

Treasurer Lynn Rogers presented two Douglas County Schools with checks for school supplies today. This giveaway was made possible because of Learning Quest 529 accounts, which allow individuals to save money for post secondary educational expenses.

The first school to receive their check was Liberty Memorial Central Middle School, where 6th grade teacher Laura Burris received $1,000 for her classroom. The second check was delivered to Eudora USD 491 and totaled $5,000 for the district to make improvements to their outdoor culinary classroom among other supplies they’ll be purchasing.

“529 accounts are a great resource for individuals to use for their own educational expenses,” Treasurer Rogers said. “And businesses can set them up to provide funds to employees for continuing education as well.”

“Learning Quest is a great program, and I’m excited to be supporting these Douglas County schools with school supplies this year. Having been a school board member, I know how much of an impact we are making with this program.”

Ms. Burris and the Eudora School District were chosen as random winners of the Choose My School Supply Drive that was run by the Treasurer’s Office. There were over 2,300 nominations total for the giveaway.
